Every AB Agri employee, within the UK and increasingly in our overseas operations, is entitled to spend two working days volunteering to support their wider community. Our aspiration is for at least a third of our people to use this time to help the communities and groups they care about most. We organise volunteering opportunities as well as encouraging our people to support groups that they are already involved with.
In the last year, 170 of our people volunteered for a number of great causes.
43 colleagues from across our AB Agri community participated in the GAFT sponsored bike ride, which raises money to support farmers who are experiencing financial difficulties. Between them, they completed over 1,000 miles of a total bike ride which stretched the length of the UK.
Many of us have also got involved in supporting other local charities and organisations. These have included a range of activities from conservation projects, such as litter clearing at an eco-park in Cefn Fforest and planting crowfoot in the River Kennet, through to supporting animal shelters with animal care and treat making. These aren't just happening in the UK: members of our AB Vista team in the US helped pack food parcels for hurricane victims in Florida and, in Singapore, 8 of us took part in Wheel, Walk or Jog 2018.
We believe that helping young people to both manage their career paths and learn more about the range of careers that our industry offers, is key for us to attract the best talent into our industry. We therefore volunteer for a range of school engagement events, such as mock interviews, guess the professional, university lectures and mentoring.
This is just a selection of the activities we have been doing, and we are very proud of everyone's efforts.
